i2A - iAero

Who we are

The iAero – i2A SAS company was founded in 2001 by François Vignon (private pilot and IT specialist) and Gérald Ducoin (flight test pilot). It is based in France at Darois airport (250 km south east of Paris) and also has an office in the United States.

The company was originally founded from an encounter and an idea: to create a low cost, low mass, inertial referenceless autopilot for light aviation. This patented solution was met with real success. Since then, iAero has come a long way, notably developing a complete and lightweight flight data recording and management solution (FDM) unique on the market: the APIBOX solution. This solution, which is already in version 3, is now marketed worldwide. It is fitted to all types of aircraft and designed to comply with the ED-155 standard.

Whatever your aero activity sector and your mission, we have the solution ...

- Fixed wing aircraft or rotorcraft flight schools
- Aircraft manufacturers
- Aeronautical integrators
- Armies, civil and military security, state markets
- Aerial work operators
- Owner rental
- Aero maintenance workshops …

Our key differentiating strength is that you provide the solution, from the design stage (Engineering Department), to the design and production of the solution (prototyping and manufacturing), through to testing (Flight Test Team) and certification!

Our values

Since start, the philosophy of the iAero Company has been based on the fact that simplicity is the major condition for any equipment or system to be efficient and profitable.

“Simplicity is the major condition for any equipment or system to be efficient and profitable”

This philosophy stems from the experience of our first development project: an autopilot without inertial reference, for light or ultra-light aircraft.

To meet the challenge of complexity, weight and price for the intended target, the solution could only come from a new approach, breaking with existing technologies and systems.

The second iAero principle, derived from the first, was established during the development of the Apibox flight data recorder: to design a system that can be directly linked to existing aircraft sensors without interfering with the integrity of flight systems, acquisition of existing data and without compromising security.

“Non-intrusive interfaces linked to existing sensors and without interference with the integrity of data acquisition systems”

To achieve this objective, the iAero has designed different types of interfaces (discrete, analog, ARINC 429/717, mil-1533, etc.) which are not intrusive and allow the installation of FDM without altering the aircraft or the material type certificate. For example, the APIBOX is connected to the PC6 of the Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop engine without interfering with existing instruments. In the same way, we are connected to the Attitude and Heading Referential System of the DA42 equipped with the G1000 avionics suite. Another very important premise to take into account is that we do not live in a frozen world and that everything changes more and more quickly (technology, materials, manufacturing process, equipment performance, and regulations…). “Scalable design based on modular and open architectures”

Considering this fact, our software and hardware are designed using modular and open architectures, allowing the system to evolve by changing or modifying only what is necessary.

This specific philosophy allows us to improve our products on a very regular basis and to increase their performance at a very low cost for our customers. It also allows us to easily integrate specific customer requirements at a very reasonable cost.
