FLARM Technology AG
Who we are
FLARM is the collision avoidance system and traffic awareness technology used by General Aviation (GA), light aircraft, and UAVs. Aircraft with a FLARM system issue visual and aural warnings when on a collision course with another aircraft.
Based on a sensitive GNSS receiver, FLARM works by calculating and broadcasting its own future 3D flight path to nearby aircraft. At the same time, it receives the future flight path from surrounding aircraft and calculates a collision risk.
Many newer FLARM devices also incorporate an ADS-B and transponder receiver. This enables aircraft that are not yet equipped with FLARM to also be detected. However, these aircraft will not be able to detect the FLARM-equipped aircraft.
FLARM is recommended by many aviation authorities and organizations. Over 60,000 manned aircraft already have a FLARM-system installed. In Europe, around 50% of all GA aircraft have FLARM (including virtually 100% of gliders).
