Woodward has continuously advanced the state of the art in primary flight control actuator design, from hydromechanical versions on early Douglas and Boeing jet transports to multi-redundant FBW (fly-by-wire) actuators used on modern-day military fighter aircraft. Woodward engineers are developing next generation electrohydrostatic actuators (EHA) that eliminate the need for a central aircraft hydraulic system—reducing weight and increasing system reliability. Woodward's primary flight control actuators are used to power flight-critical control surfaces, and are incorporated on the advanced F/A-18E/F/G and F-35C aircraft.
