Woodward’s UAV applications include utility door actuators, flap actuators, trim actuators, and aileron actuators.
FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITY
Woodward leads a highly competitive field in the design and manufacture of secondary flight controls and utility actuation for the military UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) industry. Woodward actuators are on several UAV platforms including DarkStar, Predator B, and X-37.
Woodward’s UAV applications include utility door actuators, flap actuators, trim actuators, and aileron actuators.
Our UAV applications may consist of:
brush or brushless motor technology
position sensing
integral electronics
variable damping
manual drives
Woodward develops and qualifies all of these designs on-site. Woodward can produce utility actuators with many different form factors, including long-stroke linear actuators, rotary actuators with various outputs (such as a cable-wrapped pulley, or a sprocket), and hinge-line actuators. We have a distinguished history of working with customers to provide a solution that integrates seamlessly with the aircraft system.
Woodward has produced UAV actuation for multiple fixed-wing aircraft applications. These systems can include everything from flight controls to wingtip such as flap levers, flap actuators, and electronics controllers. We have the capability to include redundant-failure mechanisms if the application requires them, as these mechanisms are common on Woodward-designed manned aircraft secondary flight control and utility actuation applications.
Woodward remains at the forefront of electromechanical actuation technology.
