Aircraft connectors must pass through multiple thermal and humidity cycles every day with no impact on their reliability or performance. They also need to be light weight, as every additional gram lifted into the sky leads to a corresponding increase in fuel consumption.
Unmodified off the shelf connectors are initially low cost but require regular replacement throughout the operating life of the aircraft, which generates significant through life costs. They are also not optimised to support weight reduction across the platform.
SMI works with a wide range of existing connector designs that are qualified for aerospace applications. Our specialist moulding process transforms the connectors by providing a level of sealing that enables their deployment for applications and in configurations that would otherwise be impossible, at the same time as greatly extending their maintenance cycles.
