During the high volume machining of aluminium in the aerospace industry, aircraft parts or ribs are generally machined from the solid; during this operation over 90 % of the raw part is often removed. The tools and machines used must be reliable and provide high performance to prevent scrap and, at the same time, to keep the machining times as low as possible. With the high-performance milling cutters OptiMill-SPM, MAPAL offers a highly efficient tool solution for roughing aluminium structural parts. The OptiMill-SPM tools are available in the diameter range from 6 to 50 mm, both as solid carbide and as PCD designs. The program is supplemented by variants with the CFS replaceable head.
