Compression moulding technology is ideally suitable for the manufacture of components which are to be produced in large quantities. There are two fundamental forms of compression moulding technology: thermosetting and thermoplastic processing.
Thermosetting base products
Thermosetting base products can be either pre-impregnated fibre layers (prepregs), or dry fibre materials which are moistened with resin and then impregnated during the compression process. Once the mould has brought the base product into the required geometry, the liquid matrix then cures under the influence of pressure and temperature. This creates a stable component which can subsequently be demoulded and further processed.
