There are two different types of scanners - "portable" or "fixed." Portable scanners resemble bar code readers. This lightweight, but ergonomically-rugged scanner could be carried by personnel. Fixed scanners are used for tracking assets through a process or movement set-up in a primary location and are attached to moving fixtures (carts, vehicles, forklifts, etc.).
