Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) ATCTand Press Room DesignNASA, Kennedy Space Center, FloridaAJT sited and designed a state-of-the-art Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) and base building to replace the existing structures at Kennedy Space Center. The new 7 story, 73 foot (cab floor height) tower design includes a controller lounge, restrooms, a communications equipment room, weather observation station, equipment support area, offices and a handicapped-accessible elevator. The design includes a base building that houses a VIP lounge and press room. A two-deck modernized viewing platform for television production and reporters was designed to be built over the base building. The ATCT complies with the general guidelines and fundamental requirements of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and United States Air Force directives. AJT was responsible for the engineering, plan development, construction management support, survey and geotechnical investigation.
