The surface mounted floodlight is one of the components of the Touchdown and Lift-off area lighting system. At elevated heliports and helidecks, visual surface texture lighting patterns within the TLOF are essential for helicopter positioning during the final approach and landing. These visual guidance cues can be provided using floodlights in addition to perimeter lights.
