With the high voltage power supply for the soft X-ray spectrometer, ASP contributes to an international research satellite.
To advance astronomical observations in the X-ray range, the next-generation X-ray observatory “Hitomi” (ASTRO-H) was developed in international collaboration, mainly between Japan and NASA. Three detectors on board enable highly sensitive observations in a wide range, from soft X-rays to the softest gamma rays. “Hitomi” (ASTRO-H) will use these new capabilities to explore the mechanisms of formation of galaxy clusters – the largest objects in space composed of “visible matter” – which are influenced by dark energy and dark matter, to reveal the formation and evolution of supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies, and to probe the physical laws governing the extreme conditions in neutron stars and black holes.
